It's been three years since we started this journey of fulfilling our vision and "making extraordinary things happen for children in need."

Our work and our programs have lent a helping hand to children in our community who have sadly lost a parent or loved one at a young and vulnerable age. When I read their scholarship application essays, I am touched by their courage and their strength to endure such a tragic hardship. Somewhere through the mire of their grief, they find it within themselves to excel and reach their personal goals of bettering their lives
and attending the college of their dreams!

Today - thanks to your tremendous support - assistance from the Children's Foundation comes in the form of a $20,000 scholarship. Our intent is to make sure these very deserving students concentrate on their studies and not their financial circumstances.

We cannot begin to express how grateful we are to you and are humbled you have chosen us as your charity of choice! Board President Dan Leary has articulated our gratitude best in these words, "Your generosity has given several young people a chance to flourish and to reach their potential."

History...

Children ~ They are our future: a hope for a better world. When a child loses a parent through death, their world is torn apart...

The Sunset Hills Children’s Foundation grew out of its Founders (who own or work for mortuaries and cemeteries in the West Mojave Desert of California) and their friends to help meet the educational needs of young children abruptly left behind by the untimely death of a parent and/or parents.

Since 2007, the scope and size of the Foundation has grown tremendously. Board members are humbled by the overwhelming
support from our Sponsors and Patrons which has allowed us to give back to our community and make a difference for children in need. Today, the Sunset Hills Children’s Foundation awards up to $20,000 to a deserving
student who has experienced loss or a hardship, yet is still driven by their goal to better their lives and reach their educational dreams.

The Foundation’s Mission & Vision are designed to fund and promote scholarship programs for education of the children of the West Mojave Desert who need it the most....

As a partner in building a better educated community, we must also reach into our area to find the children in need. We work closely with schools, businesses and other Non-profit organizations to bring our resources and programs directly to them.

Ryan Cambridge Memorial Scholarship

The Foundation is also the proud caretaker of the Ryan Cambridge Memorial Scholarship. Each year, Ryan’s legacy is kept in perpetuity by awarding $5000 to students who are pursuing a career in the construction, trade or building related industries – monies for this scholarship are also intended to stay right here in the Victor Valley!

Mourning Star Center Grant Program

This unique program provides free bereavement counseling to children who have lost a parent or loved one. We are continuing to fulfill our five year commitment of a $10,000 Grant to keep this vital service in our community.

The Foundation maintains effective stewardship over all assets entrusted to it and will distribute scholarships and grants that reflect donors’ wishes and community priorities.
